Finally some snow...hopefully the kids will get a chance to get out and play in it. Don't forget to send your child with gym shoes on P.E. days which are Monday, Thursday and Friday.


Curriculum Update:


Reading: We are talking about story elements (character, setting, problem, solution). We have read "On the Way to the Pond" and "Did you See Chip?" Please enjoy these stories with your child this weekend.  Be sure to send the book back on Monday.


Spelling: We are reviewing short and long a and i. Next week we will begin long O.  Working on word families with these vowel sounds would be good practice for your child.


Grammar: We have been learning about using commas in a list and in letters.


Writing: The students are learning about Famous Americans and working on a biography unit.  They are learning about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr.  They will also write a biorgraphy about a classmate.


Social Studies: We learned lots about penguins and how some even live in warm weather.

Math: We have finished up our unit on place value, addition facts and comparing numbers.  Next week we will begin our subtraction unit.
