Happy
Spring! Hopefully we will have some
warmer spring weather soon. It is nice
to have the sun shining and longer sunny days.
It is hard to believe we are at the end of March. Enjoy the week off with your family. I’ll see the children’s smiling faces on Monday
April 1.
Information
from the LMC…
The Young Author’s Breakfast for all
participants will be on Friday, April 12th before school.
Manuscripts and certificates will be passed out at that time. Watch for the
permission slip to come home this Friday. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
place winners were announced in school and will be posted to the Edline LMC
page.
2. If you are cleaning
out your closets over break, please save your used children’s books for our 5th
Annual Book Exchange to be held the last week in April. More information will
come home after Spring Break.
Curriculum Update…
Language Arts: We have had a character study of Tomie DePaola’s Strega Nona stories. The class enjoyed reading about the wise Strega Nona and the careless Big Anthony. Have your child tell you about his/her favorite story. We also read “Chickens Aren’t the Only Ones” and “The Story of a Bluebird.” We have focused on nonfiction text, schema and story plot.
Writing: The students have been doing various writing activities in response to the Strega Nona books. They wrote a letter telling about a vacation and a story about a magic ring.
Phonics: We are working on long e. (beep, bee, meal)
Math: We are working on Unit 7 which is about shapes and attributes.
Science: We are studying the human body. Our focus will be on bones and major organs. If you haven’t yet, please send in the brown bag cut like a vest by Friday, April 5.
